Story from the ACMOC issue #123. I was very disappointed about the description of the D7E with Rome/KG blade. Was described as "an angled brush plow/dozer" no mention of Rome at all! It was one of the most effective tools in Vietnam! there were thousands of them!! If the operator knows how to use them, they are one of the best land clearing tools made!

Hello Pete! yes thank you! I would like to supply any info and pics I can about the Rome/KG blades I can. I'm not to good at writing articles and have limited time so however I can help. I grew up along side my father with using KG blades, its kind of an art to using them and was always fascinated at how they could just split and shatter a huge tree or stump in minutes. They are also great for creek bank clearing. You can shear the trees or stumps off without tearing out the whole bank of the creek or ditch with as a huge root ball when using an excavator. The only thing they don't like is a rock, keeping the cutting edge sharp and to the correct bevels make the sharing action productive.

Good idea Pete. Even though I worked for Cat dealer for 42 years, I'm limited on that subject. Those of you with Rome experience are more than welcome to add to my story about Fort Leonard Wood. They have way too much material down there to go into detail on every piece of equipment. I would like to hear more on the Rome plow/dozer too. Bill Walter

The best info I have seen on the Rome Plow was written by Ozdozer, I believe it was on the old ACMOC board, at least 10 years ago...he was there, and operated a D7 w/Rome plow. Wrote some good stories about clearing jungle...
It should be in the archives somewhere, hopefully it wasn't lost.

PS-the search function here is absolutely, totally worthless...all I get is a page that says Loading-Loading...forever. the "Advanced Search " gets a "500" error message. Is this just something with my computer, or does anybody else have the problem?

Hi Team,
yes, Ozdozer operated these D8H's in SVN as indicated above.
Scans below are pix of one of the Land Clearing D8H's as displayed in the Royal Australian Army Engineers Museum in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Being from a Dealer background I was tasked with assembling our first Rome Plough JC Blade and training the people who assembled some of the later Rome Plough jungle clearing blades as fitted to our 68A D8H's.
I served in a double posting with the RAE 17th Construction Squadron as a Plant Operator as well as a Plant Fitter back in 1968-69 in Vung Tau and a short time at Nui Dat South Viet Nam.
Hope they are of interest.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Nice pics Eddie! I remember seeing some pics of D9G's with Rome blades also somewhere. Imagine if they made a Rome blade for a D11! wow that would be scary!! lol

Hi Ronm, I just checked - the standard search works for me but the advanced search does not.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
