I found a complete set up for front hydraulics for my d2 5u along with a hyster winch. My dozer has rear hydraulics that run off the pto and is a tool bar dozer. I know if I put the winch on the tool bar won’t clear if it’s flipped around but since I don’t have any of the rear tool bars. My question is will it make it not as original if I switch the hydraulics and put a winch on it? My other question is I can get them both for $1000 is that pretty fair for them?

Hi, Cmiller79.
As I understand it, the standard hydraulic arrangement with a tool bar was front mounted hydraulics. Putting a winch on the rear will help to balance out the weight of the blade on the front.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

original to what:
the factory,
the dealer,
the first owner
the era?

The 1K deal? sounds ok, but what is the condition? those winches really caught hell in the pulpwood biz around here. One former operator told me about lodging one track behind a tree, or spinning the track to bed it way down, then winching until the logs moved, the cable broke, or the tractor broke. Also stories about felling a tree across the tractor and breaking it in half.

I guess original to the era of the machine. I just went over and looked at the winch today everything if free on it and it honestly doesn’t look that abused. My dozer has never had a winch on it and I’m not gonna run it like they use to back in the day.

1k is not a bad price for both. Make sure all the piping and control linkages are there for the hydraulic unit. Is it a 41 or a 44 unit, one or two valve unit and does the guard come with it?

It’s a 1 valve unit with all the piping and I’m not sure is it’s a 41 or 44 how do you tell the difference? And yes the guard does come with it

Make sure you gather all the linkage and especially the tie plate that mounts on top of the trans/rearend assembly directly under the seat. Without it you are not going to be able to install.
My thread on the my D2N has a disassembly and shows the parts and pieces, including tie plate, needed.
Have a good day...…….Bill

The #44 sits pretty well centered, with the filler on the left side. The #41 is offset to the right with the filler on the right side.

Also, correct me if I am wrong; #44 the piping runs along the right side, whereas on a #41 the pipes are on the left side. 41 is rectangular shaped also.

Yes, except the early #44 units went down both sides.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
