Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences, good or bad, with u-ship or freight quote.

Thanks for your thoughts.

If you want someone to speak with and help if problems arise do not use either one,
The only thing they will give you is a cheap price, after that you are on your own.

Depending on the size and weight of the object you need to ship deal with a owner operator, common carrier, freight broker ie: Landstar, TMC, JB Hunt etc. or even UPS Freight

But of course this conclusion is from my experiance so i can not speak for others.

I used a local trucking firm recently. He priced competitively with others and then called me up and cut his price from there since he had to run a load that direction for a friend. He was having an issue finding a back haul. I ended up with the whole flatbed so I bought 2 more tractors. It's a brutal desease we have. All rational seems to go out the window... I would look for an independant needing to fill out a back haul. BTW the truck driver on my deal got out & helped load out. He doesn't make money sitting still. Good luck.

I am 50/50 with u ship, 1 time it was a great deal, the shipper did what he agreed everyone was happy, not the case on the second load. I was nieve enough to pay a deposit, the shipper never made it to the tractor and refused to refund deposit because he said he tried and couldent find the address, Of course he dident call me or the contact at the other end untill he was 2 hours away because he dident have cell service. Last I knew a person should know how to get where there going before they get there. U ship would do NOTHING

Theres never a guarentee

Steve,

I load alot of trucks over a years time and you would be surprised how many of the drivers do not have a GPS. If my job was behind the wheel everyday then I would spent the $100 and have a GSP. At least it would be a back up if I did not have the right map or could not reach anyone by phone.

I've had good luck with uship, but I always make sure to go with a shipper that has a good feed back rating.

Yes, I have experience about the estimated freight quote. There are various factors which are considered to get estimated quoted i.e size and weight of the object you need to ship, operator, common carrier, freight broker etc.

I used these people once and had very good results. They asked a number of "creative" questions to see if they could get the price down for me. Didn't have to, but did their best for a good price. Once set, the driver was on time, secured the load well and I got updates and to the status of the trip.

I used U-ship when I purchased my 212 in South Carolina a number of years ago. I will never use them again if there is any other choice, including carrying it on my back. Not the cheapest quote I got, but I went with a carrier that had very good feedback. When I spoke to him he stated he had a detachable low bed he would be using. I contracted on a Monday and he promised delivery by that Friday as he claimed he had a tractor to pick up near me across the line in Wisconsin on Saturday. When he had not picked the grader up by Thursday I called him. No luck reaching him. He got back to me the following Monday and claimed a u-joint went out of his truck and he had to order one. I asked about the tractor in WI he had to pick up. He said he had that on the back and he didn't have time to go a half day the other way and pick my grader up. He whined about how it was going to cost him because he had to deadhead up. He said he was headed to pick mine up after dropping the tractor off in Tennessee. A week later my grader was still setting. Finally got a hold of him and was told he was home sick for four days. On it went with one excuse after the other for three more weeks. Meanwhile my next door neighbor had a load to within a 150 miles of the grader and offered to bring it home for me very reasonable. I called U-ship and tried to cancel due to non-performance by the shipper. Here's what I got from them. They would not refund my money, they would keep a 10% fee for their troubles and hold the rest for me to use to buy shipping in the next 12 months. They refund nothing even when it is their shipper that fails to perform. Finally after 3-1/2 weeks the shipper shows up, jacked around my pony motor trying to make it run, (never gave previous owner notice as required in contract) and finally got it loaded after a neighbor tow started it with his TLB. A week later when he still hadn't showed up I finally got him to answer the phone. He said that he and his wife were in Tomah, WI holed up with the sh*ts so bad he could not get out of the parking lot. A day and a half later he showed up with a 15 minute notice with the 212 on a 20,000 lb gooseneck behind a Dodge 1 ton pickup. I asked what happened to the detachable. He said "this is a detachable, I just jack it up and drive away". Then the person got out of the passenger side. It was a 5-2 robust male with a long beard, pink shoes, pink flowered shirt, and bib overalls with one strap up and the other hanging. I never asked no more questions, quickly unloaded, and got them the heck out of here before the neighbors seen it. His review was truthful but probably not what he expected.

I guess I'm lucky enough to have access to either the right network of "bonifide" carriers or better yet, utilize my own equipment, such as others on this BB. I have had my share of similar experiences as Roger; IMO regarding Ush*t, you get what you pay for; many times the so called trucker isn't even legal to operate or carries adequate cargo insurance, if any. To me, a real trucker wouldn't be looking on Ush*t for a load. Of course, I shouldn't be complaining either, the worse service providers make us look better than I think we are. I gave myself the nickname "Janitor Gee" for many years, as I had to clean up someone else's mess. My clientele realizes that it is cheaper to pay us for excellent service, than to roll the dice "dialing for dollars" trying to save a couple of coins. I will get off my soapbox now. Sorry for the rant. JM
