I have talked about the D2 that was my Dad's before. I remember going with him as a young boy of 6 when he was looking for a crawler for the farm. I know he wanted a TD6 International because we had all internationals on the farm and was replacing a T20 crawler. I can remember going to 8 to 10 used equipment dealers, and looking at what they had. At one place I really wanted the "Big Orange" one, but it wasn't to be. I can remember when he found the D2 and made the deal. Brought it home that day, as we had the Farm truck, and Dad could haul it home. Last night going through some of the estate paperwork my brother found these. I will be making up a protective plaque to have for going to shows.

Looking at the fender I am going to guess 1949 or 1950 vintage.

And FYI, $2500 dollars in 1968 equals $17,804 in 2017 dollars.

It is a 1950 5U. I believe Dad told me it was used as an anchor tractor. It had a large pulley mounted to the drawbar. I know the engine was opened up because it would have been the two piece pistons but the ones in there but the are All Al.

So the comment on the value of $2500 in 1968 got me wondering what the cost of a 1950 D2 new would have been. I have looked on the net, and did a search on this site, but didn’t turn up the info. I am sure someone has posted that here before.

I have a D2 picture book. I think I remember a picture of machines for sale at a dealer with price tags on them. But probably doesn't include the year of the picture. I'll try to find the picture anyway.

I bought this tractor from the original owner about 18 years ago. He kept the sales slip in the parts book.

So using the same calculator, a D2 today would be over $54,000.

Another way to look at the cost would be that in 1968, the cost for the D2 was ~ 40% of the new price. The receipt shown only showed a 4U tractor, so I would expect that the 5U with Blade would have somewhat more.

Thanks Gary for posting that picture.
