Hi Daryl, where is the rest of the teeth? Do you need a dentist?
Hi Daryl, where is the rest of the teeth? Do you need a dentist?
Hello Daryl,
The good news is that if those bad teeth are on the pressure side for reverse, then you can get away with keeping it, if it's for a show pony.
If it's not, and you can't get a new one (at a good price) then I would spend some time cleaning the teeth and then carefully fill the pitted areas with phosphor bronze and then dress back to the correct profile in a shaper or similar. Oh, and I would quench the teeth as soon as the bronzing is done on each tooth. That should maintain some hardness. They are usually only induction hardened on large gears. Plus the bronze will add some great bearing properties.
At least it's repairable. 😖mile:
Cheers,
Phill.
Hola Daryl,
You need to put out some rat poison, that's a rat eaten gear. What would I do? reverse the gear and drive on, it will last for years. Some tractors you can reverse the gear on the same side, others you have to swap sides.
How is PON?

Hey Neil, I'm surprised you and D23J have time to be on the Forum, the Barmaid at the Tintaldra Pub must be shaking in her uggboots when you and Andrew darken her doorstep each night for a pre-dinner cocktail, by the time Mrs Wombat drags your sad and sorry backsides home for dinner I bet there isn't a dry eye in the Pub with all the great jokes that get told, I'd love to be a fly on the Pub wall this week, beer sales will be up 200% easy!!😖mile:
Sorry to go sideways on this thread rax200, you know Neil better than I do, but we both know his sense of humor is second to none so I thought I better throw a biscuit of hay to the Colt from Old Regret and keep him poking along, maybe he will find time to write a few words for the next ACMOC magazine about what he and D23J are getting up to this week.
I reckon the boys are on the right path about turning those bull gears around too, sounds like you are doing a full recondition of your D4, keep up the good work.
All the best
Donkeyhead
Hi all i have decide to put it back in and just drive in reverse that will fix all the problems, and the gear box had the same rat problem so i'll put them in reverse that way when i go in reverse i'll go forward. :bowl:
ROME/KG Yep the pinion and most of gears in the box was buggered too, so i replaced them all with the ones from the spare machine and i be will this weekend start pulling the bull gears from the donor too as i now they are like new
Andrew i put some rat sack around to keep'em out
Wombat Pon's good she will be coming to the meeting on Friday
Hi Phill thanks for your reply i would never thought of that a very good solution i will keep the gears in case some one requires any
PS: this is the good side i post some more pics when i do the other side.
Hi Daryl, we were stuck In reverse in The North East but now we have our gears and clutch fixed it's full speed to Clayton, see you there!
Good to hear Daryl ! hope she runs good for you!
