When taking my D315 head off I damaged some of the ferrules that go between the head and the block. My local CAT dealer tells me the 6B6224 is still available, but 3B2420 is not. Are these necessary? It seems that they are restriction or diverter devices. Explanation of their use and suggestions for replacements are welcome. Thanks! Elton

Rome,

Thanks again for your info. My CAT dealer quoted me $5.02 VS $3.56 for 6B6224. Do you get a special deal or is my dealer....a bit high?

Your welcome. No, my dealer shows them for $3.56 in stock. Maybe not in stock or added some shipping?

Punch the part numbers into an internet search and see what’s out there.

They are necessary for the rubber grommets to seal the openings through the block deck and head base. If there’s water directors, they’re a separate piece pressed into the head.

I suppose if you use the brush on gasket maker on the head gasket you probably could do without the ferrules and grommets but I wouldn’t want to chance it.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄
