Guys, when I start a shed fund, I will certainly look both of you up! It has crossed my mind often to put up a 100x200 addition partially enclosed and gradually section it off for individual bays, etc. Just a dream...Life would be easier parking them according to size, whatever and not having to shoe horn them to fit.
I have only seen one tailseat hydraulic unit, and it was on Dave Starn's D2 5U (RIP btw). I figured I needed to save the oddball thingys just in case I end up with another D2 orchard tractor.
As many know, I have never been a diesel fan of anything earlier than a U series of anything here. Had Robert S not purchased the R2 from Bright's, I might have kept it to complete a "hand" of 2's lol. Funny thing was, he bought a J series D2 for the same reason. Fun! JM
If I had a tailseat D2 or 4 I would definitely want to put something unique and cleanly packaged like that on it, don’t get me wrong “live” hydraulics are nice and all, but for just pulling a drag disc that’s overkill in some respects.
I am fortunate to have hydraulics on most of my machines. It is nice to have the ability to use a hydraulic disk, scraper, whatever here. Several of the real "antique" implements I left with the trip ropes to keep them original.
My D4C tailseat would likely get used if it had hydraulics. I had CAT 143 saved for it, but used on another machine that ended up with a CAT toolbar dozer set up. Too many projects. JM
Some more cleaning.
That looks like it’s going to be a nice crawler tractor for pulling a number 40 scraper with the new tracks, 5 rollers and new paint. That tractor is very similar to the first crawler I ever drove, 5 roller, top seat it just had factory direct start, PTR tractor oil bath clutch conversion and the later D4C dry air cleaner relocated to the RH fender for orchard work and orchard exhaust as well.
Thanks CR: Yes, that sounds like a good idea. I wonder how many hours it would take to wear the paint off of the pads? I believe D4Angelo's machine (purchased nearby) the track pads were sandblasted and clearcoated to show the "used" effect! He has since then made them look shiny from using it at Vista, CA. This machine required the skill of my go to guy and 2 other tractors to make it what it is. It has been satisfying to say the least. I will enjoy it completed and who knows if it will be allowed to play with the others! JM
