Is there still a mineral based oil I can use in my CatD2/3J. Is Celo still mineral based or synthetic. Thanks in advance for a reply.

It has been a year or 2 since I bought any, and things keep changing. The Delo ( cannot remember if 300 or 400 ) was what my old D6 liked. If I used Shell Rotula it would used 1/2 to 2/3 of a gal in 8 hours. With the Delo it would run 2 or 3 day before I needed to add. Others had told me of engines that had a real preference as to which brand, but this was my first experience with that much of a reduction. This was all 15-40 , I had used a little Tractor Supply brand in 30wt ( the easiest strait weight oil I could find) without a change from Rotula.

Oils have changed, additives - detergents, synthetics, and list continues. Like any other product - buy it clean, keep it clean and monitor the levels. I have seen many different brands, have had some bad experience with one, will never run it in anything again. Lost an engine at 44K and the gunk and sludge was unbelievable. Changed the oil and filter every 4K and had the record to prove! Another engine ran another brand with more than 150K and you could not get your hand dirty in engine, again routine changes and filters. Your experiences may vary - Some swear by a particular brand or grade, others swear at those same products. This is a subject that will forever have controversy! - cts

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
