Hello All,Would any of our experienced members be able to confirm the engine in the attached photos is an D8800 and may be able to provide details on the possible horsepower rating and build facility and build date range of these engines.

It came from King Island off Tasmania,

Thank you in advance, Peter

The tag may be off a D8800, but the pictured engine is not a D8800.

Looks like a D4600. I don't have the hp rating but I'd guess 70-80. It was used in the D6 tractor, 12 grader (I think), as well as having marine and industrial versions like yours is

I think the serial number plate says 2S702US but is hard to read if there is a number between the S and the 7.

Hello PhilC,

I am advised the serial number plate states 2S5704US.

Hi,
2S05501-up is a Serial Number range allocated to Miscellaneous Engines.
At a guess these would be engines built to special order and could be any model engine Cat produced at that time.
See scan below from the Cat Product Identification Index, Form No SEBF9451.
I believe that the "US" would signify a US Government contract engine.
I stand to be corrected.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
