I am looking at a drawn scraper up for auction, photo's only, serial # tag has part rotted away, reads as follows, 2C4018 and the letter F below. Any information about what exactly the model is etc would be appreciated.

Could that be a 21Cxxxx? DW20 and #20  11Cxxxx scraper.
I couldn't find anything with a 2C prefix.

Thanks OM, I have had a closer look at photo with magnifier, it has another number in front of the 2, could be 5 or 6 or 8, the tag is in very poor shape.

Caterpillar's Towed Scrapers - Contractor Magazine
Replacing the No.80 in 1955 was the “low-bowl” No.463. This was the most popular of all Caterpillars towed scrapers and was manufactured in several versions over its production life. A variant solely produced in the UK, the 463G, had a modified wider push block for easier push loading by dozer operators. This particular example is a No.463F from 1963.

Have had a bit more of a dig in a book here, appears it will be a 463, just don't know what year as I have no serial number data for years of production, could be anywhere between '55 and '71, maybe 4018 would be a late one so maybe a 463 F. Should match up with a 270 D8H or D9D OK.

Thanks Fat Dan and OM.

Best I can come up with is the 463F started production @ 62C01003 in 1960, your 62C04018 is 3,015 from the beginning of the F series and the beginning of the 491B & 491C 24yd scraper 47Exxxx production date (shipping date) started in 1963. I don't know if the 491B replaced the 463F but it seems to be next in the scraper lineup. Hyd or cable ? book don't say.
the picture of the 1963 in my earlier post is the 463F model 62Cxxxx

There are two parts books for 463 scrapers in the Members Technical library.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
