"i reject your reality and substitute my own" - adam savage. i suspect my final words maybe "well shit, that didnt work"
instead of perfection some times we just have to accept practicality
because bolts may strip or walk out of the housing studs will not. studs make for easier mounting too it much easier to lift a part into position over studs than it is to lift into place and then try and align bolts hence why many things such as clutches have dowel pins. for items like this its important to have the correct grade of fastners or bad things can happen.
either something breaks when it shouldnt or something doesnt break when it should and thus other parts are damaged.costing more time and money.
my grandfather drove a cane harvester for a farmer who was too stingy to remove the stumps from his field and he would plant right upto them so hitting one was a regular occurance,
sick of buying the slightly more expensive sheer bolts for the sheer points in the base cutter and feed screw drives he put normal bolt in instead. guess what the next time it hit a stump instead of a $50 fix and a couple hrs time it cost him hundredsof dollars and several hrs work becuase they had to replace driveshafts and other parts that where damaged and twisted becuase the bolts didnt snap cleanly.
it would have been cheaper to remove the stumps in the first place.
I was hunting on line for a Drawbar for my D4-7U and found one at Vander Haags. In fact they still have the whole D4 7U Bulldozer they are parting out, or can be purchased as a complete machine (Item 47RE001). The Drawbar was listed for $200.00 and $54.00 shipping from Wanamac, IN. to New Tripoli, PA.. I finally got everything from Vander Haags, the parts came in two different shipments, and I could not be happier with the condition of the Drawbar, Brackets, and Plate. I only got four of the fourteen studs, lock washers, and nuts that attach the Drawbar to the machine. The studs are in good shape, but the lock washers and nuts are well past their service life and I will be replacing them, as I would have anyway. The Stud is 3.25 inches long. The Stud's shaft is 0.750 diameter, with 0.750 X 16 UNF threads on each end of the Stud. There is a .875 inch long area in the middle of the studs shaft that is not threaded. The length of the threads on the end of the Stud that thread into the Brackets and the Transmission Housing is 1.125 inches long, and the length of the threads on the end of the Stud that the Nut and Lock Washer goes on is 1.250 inches long. Knowing what the Stud, Nut, and Lock Washer is going to be used for I would assume that they are at least a Grade 8 quality fasteners. Thanks to the members above there is a Part Number for the Studs, (0V0155). I just thought the information I am posting above could help someone down the road. Thank you and as always Semper Fi.
