I hired a guy to clean up a farm I bought a few years ago and he had some spikes welded on the top of the sides of the blade on his D6 high track. He used these to hit the tree up higher for more leverage to push it over. It worked surprisingly well. I don't know how much stress this put on the upper support arms, but they seemed to hold up.

Anyone ever see a similar pratice?

I think it was Fleco used to make 'tree dozer' attachments years ago for Cat which pushed the tree higher up than the blade could reach.

Is this what he has welded on his blade? The red painted part on the blade?
I have one on each dozer and even though I do not use a dozer to take out tree anymore, it comes in handy for other things.

The points are about the same as your pictures, but not as thick. He used some 2"x3" flat stock cut to a point.

What did you use yours for? I was thinking about putting some on mine.

Seems like the "Rome Plows" we used in Vietnam to clear trees had a bar above the dozer blade that made contact with the tree before the blade itself made contact with the tree. It helped production particularly in the smaller trees and jungle brush.

I bought the "CLAW" (that is what it was called) pre made From Nebraska Machinery Used parts about 25 years ago. The Nebraska Machinery new parts never heard or saw anything like it. It is one of the most handy things. I have one on each dozer

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
