First off, I have a 1949 D2 s/n 5U2775 SP. She's currently getting some serious love from me since the previous owner doesn't seem to have an idea that old machines are maintenance hungry. I'm waiting on some parts for this thing so I figured I'd open up the service meter to see why it's not working. As I'm sure many others have found, mine was full of junk and seized up. The little brass gear that rides on the eccentric and it's mating one that rotates the counter are boogered. I called a Speedo shop that I've used for many years and they don't have parts for this thing. So the question is, does anyone know of a place that may have parts for a nearly 70 year old Cat hour meter or am I gonna be stuck trying to hand cut a couple of gears? My book says the p/n for the Hour meter group is 5B8796. Counter assy. p/n 2A5686 and when doing a search on here I found a reference to p/n 5F4124. My counter assy. has casting numbers inside the caps of TD4787 and GX44985. Hope I'm not rambling too much, just trying to give all info I can.

There is a fellow over on the FOR SALE page that is parting out a D2 5U, maybe ask to buy his so you don't have to hand cut the gears?

I'll check that out. I'm taking a break from pulling my pony motor right now. I think it's about ready to be lifted out but this tennis elbow is killing me. Getting old sucks.

service meter repair just dropped way down on my list. Figured I'd pull my pony, since I needed to pull and repair the engagement clutch also when doing an oil change the oil was thicker than molasses. Well, now I'm in the market for .020 over main and rod bearings for the pony. I'm never gonna get to plow snow with this thing.
