I finaly got around to fixing the diesel leak that floods the lower part of injection pump on my rd4-4g7963w. I guess the culprit is this cone shaped rubber seal the goes around the fuel manifold that sticks out from the filter/transfer pump assembly.Does anyone have the part number? Also the gasket that goes between injection pump and filter/transferpump? I have the manual but no parts book with numbers, is there a sticky that I did not see? I am sure I get some leakage down the lifters and plan to plumb that drain line back to the tank? it would seem that if you plumbed it to the suction line on the transfer pump that the main tank would push fuel back up into the injection pump, I have seen the cat fix where it is plumbed to the transfer pump housing, but is it going to work plumbed into the suction line? Maybe a check valve? thanks for all your help on this, I dont use my d4 a lot but no matter how long it sits it always fires right back up, this time it was two years , a great machine the old d4"s

seal inj. Pump to filter 2a3854 $0.11 got it from regal but shipping was rediculus. It's not supposed to be cone shaped it's just an o-ring could probably be gotten at a hardware store. I'll go out and get the measurements off of the new o-ring tonight. As for the gasket thats 2a3337. I'd suggest replacing the seal on the injection pump drive while your in there. It keeps the oil in the pump. I got mine from NAPA seal 14262. The line from the back of the inj. pump has to drip or it will fill the inj. pump with diesel.

Check those part numbers again....2A3855 is the ferrule.....2A3854 is the seal (barely shown on the injection pump assembly in the parts book).

The loss of this seal allows fuel to migrate to the crankcase...not likely the cause of a flooded sump in the fuel injection pump housing. More common to find that caused by leaking injection pumps (barrels & plungers) and a plugged up drain. Also make sure the drip shields for the lifters are in place. They are there to prevent fuel from dribbling down on the lifters and winding up in the sump.

Ok went out and found my new seal. It has a different part number on the bag 8B4967. It measures OD 1.4" and thickness of 0.2" Fits on the ferrule nice and tight.

jmvmopar's part #8B4967 is a valid Cat number for that seal, at least that's what my D2 parts books show (5J and 5U), D4 is probably the same. I've taken that number to Cat before and had no trouble.

I don't have any D4 books but maybe 2A3854 must be an earlier part number for the same component?😕

Yes, that most likely is a replacement number.....just important that you start out with a correct number....the computer will upgrade to the latest version.

I saw the drive shaft seal on page 122 of my engine manual, but mine does not have that, there is just the brass bushing and no recess in it for any seal.they must have added the seal at a later time.

Irnwrkr,

That seal # 8B4967 corresponds to a O-Ring Dash # 318 made from Nitrile. Go to any good seal supply house and ask for a Dash 318 made from Nitrile. Real easy to call on the phone and see who has one. Will be lots cheaper than CAT. This is x referenced using the One Safe Source Book.
