Do filters that have been in storage - go bad? Fuel and Oil

Any thoughts/input on fuel filters and oil filters that have been in storage for years (25+?) going bad and coming apart just over age? New, sealed in plastic and boxes. Just been stored and forgotten about. Seem fine looking at them...

Run them, or not worth the risk?

I don't think so, particularly if they've been well-sealed but as always, check and confirm that they're not falling apart.
