I have an accsory book for the tractors of that time period from Cat and it shows the electric kit for a 5J.
I don,t have any parts books to run down bell housing numbers but it,s possible the same bell is used on other applications of the engine. It should be a D318 engine in it so the D6 8U & 9U use that engine & also in industrial uses.
SMF52, I see you live in Bangor so your up in the Poconos so your not far away. I live up in Dallas & I worked for Cleveland Bros. for 36 yrs. and retired the end of 1991. I ran the engine rebuilding shop there at the Wilkes Barre shop. We had lots of customers up in your area & around the Poconos.I don,t know if you knowed it but Cleveland now owns Beckwith Machinery Co. the Cat dealer in western Pa. so now they have more than 25 branch stores now. With your question about the starter OM that come back to you is the guy that knows about starters & changeover of them.
OM thanks for the info, I bought a MT 42 starter and the Cat helical starter drive. I am still looking for and researching the drive end housing. I believe the offset housing is also known as a SAE #1 housing. I will most likely just order the 512-135 from Barsanco.
SJ Thanks for the info, I am rebuilding/restoring a 3J and 5J crawler and have been looking for a Cat dealer that will be helpful in finding these old parts.
