Just thought I'd share a recent addition to my collection, an old Caterpillar Diesel No. 10 Auto Patrol. I purchased it from a friend who used it on his farm for building terraces. It had sat for the last 20 years until last Sunday when he pulled it out of the barn and pull started it. It runs good and drives fine. There are a few things I need to fix or get going again. The return spring for the brake peddle broke so I need to find one of those or a spring that will work. The pony motor hasn't been started for over 20 years so that will need to be tuned up to get running again. And one tire on the rear has a bad tube so that will need to be changed out. Otherwise a very nice machine. The seller had it sand blasted and painted when he got it and the repaint has held up pretty well. I do need to add decals to it. Does anyone make them? I could just stencil them on if I have to. The chassis number is 9F939 and the engine number is 5H10. From looking at a reference spec sheet I think it's a 1936-1937. If anyone knows for sure that's right please let me know. Also, how many were made? Is there anyone who has a running total of how many are still around? The deal also included a parts engine, three tires and some manuals. One manual is for a gas power unit and the other is a service manual for the Diesel unit. I gave $1,200 for it. Enjoy the photos and thanks for reading!

I don't think you gave $1200 for it I think you stole it for $1200
That thing is awesome, I've always wanted a motor grader.
Good find

Where would a serial # 3F fit in the auto patrol line?

I don't have a 9F or a 3F in my book. Did you get the number off of the frame. catskinner

I don't know what 3F anyone is referring to. The 9F I got off the tag from the frame of the grader . The 9F would be the chassis number right? Using the chart that I have pictured at the very end of the photos I just lined up the 5H engine number and the 9F chassis number to determine that it was the Diesel No. 10 Auto Patrol from 1936-1937.

Sorry, my answer was to question from "jbernd56"
3F is the engine s/n for chassis 7E and 9F (gas engine) shown on the chart.

Didn't intend to hijack the post. The tag with the 3F did say power unit number after closer inspection. Going back under my rock now!

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
