I'm getting ready to reinstall the injection pumps on my diesel 40 and had a couple questions. The parts book shows a copper washer on the outside of the fuel mounting bolt and a fiber washer on the inside. I don't remember seeing any fiber washer on the inside and they are discontinued from Cat now. Does anybody have a picture of the washer or a suggestion what to use? I also have a question about the top mounting gasket, it is no longer available and I'm not sure if the gasket should rectangle to the shape of the pump or if it was a round gasket that went into the recessed groove? The picture shows the bottom side of the mounting area. Appreciate any help.

Hi TomP-TX
The fibre washer has been replaced with a copper one part number 4B8407, as for the gaskets i have no info on them.

Since the timing of injection is set by adjusting the lifter/pump plunger heights, I think you want a gasket that fits in the recess and crushes to allow the machined faces to touch.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

I think Olsen's can make the fiber and other gaskets.

The top gasket is a cork gasket or cork rubber that fits the groove, and the flats are trimmed off the sides. It should be slightly thicker to allow for both crush and metal to metal seating as has been suggested. The fibers are usually stuck to something, either the fuel log, or threaded to the hollow bolt
