I submitted a group of pictures for the WWII magazine feature of my Dad in CCC in Idaho, North Africa and China, Burma, and India, and some of our family at the Peoria plant, a blade guard my Dad patented, and a couple with an HD-41- a big deal at the time. I had scanned these for the club magazine but they never posted so here they are for all of you.

Joe - thanks for posting the pics, they are very interesting. It's a shame they never made it into print. Your Dad must have some stories to tell, and seen a lot of different places.
The CCC is interesting enough in itself. Has anyone ever written up the history of the CCC?
Caterpillar produced a booklet in 1935, entitled "Crops or Canyons" .. and it's all about the conservation techniques and efforts of the CCC in the early 1930's, when the Govt set in place the huge effort to restore eroded farmland, as well as employ people.

There's some nice antique machines in those pics. What is the story with the unique grill with the large holes on the tractor with the scraper? Was that a special grill to counter overheating?

Thank you for sharing those great pictures with us,all the more valueable because some forward thinking individual had the foresight to carry a camera and commit them to film.
The point and shoot generation has very little concept of the effort required to create the history that you have shared with us.Ron G

I agree!
Awesome history and luck that someone had a camera to preserve the history!

Joe, yes it is a late 2U with the improved low effort steering which is a joke. Reduced length of pull. Is very touchy on adjusting which must be done more often than the earlier 2Us. Hope another picture shows up. Still use the D8 ocasionaly. Liked 3T and 17A d7's better. Darrol

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
