Both of my lift cylinders are leaking after a rebuild by caterpillar dealer. I had already bought standard kits for both cylinders.
I told them not to grind the rods! But they did it anyway, NOW I've got a problem.
Does Caterpillar still make or sell oversize seals? How do I know what size to order??
I have mikes that I can measure the rods.
Thanks for any help from someone...
Mitch
I would suggest if you have a good Hydraulic company locally go there with your measurements and parts to get correct fitting seals, some places make seal etc within (custom make them), generally any good hydraulic company can help if they have the right attitude
another option is reshafting the rams. ie get a machine shop to cut the rod eye off and weld it to a new bit of bright chrome shaft that has the end machined to take the piston. its not a difficult job if you have a lathe and can weld. if you want to see the process have a look at cutting edge engineering on youtube rebuilding rams is kurtis's bread and butter
we had this done for our old d4. cost use less for both than just the rechroming of the shafts would have cost each.
if they are leaking i would go back and get up the service manager they should guarantee their work.
