Hello all, I have had a d8h cable dozer for a couple years for farm use with no issues, but now the machine will not push, actually will hardly even drive at all. Engine runs good and powershift transmission is good. I dont know much about these machines otherwise. Why do I not have any power to push? Is there a clutch that is gone or in need of adjustment? Is it the torque converter? Thanks in advance.

have you checked the transmission/torque converter and steering clutch oil levels? are the fuel filters clean and the tank vent open?

Transmission oil level is good, torque converter appears to source its oil from the engine? How do I check the steering clutch oil level? When I bought this machine unfortunately no manuals came with it. Everything appears good on the fuel side. Thanks

you should really go on ebay and get the manuals for your machine---at least maintenance and operation

Hi,
please help us out as the answer we give depends on your S/No, early D8H's from 46A1 to 46A3043 units have a 3 stage diesel fuel operated T/C and later D8H's have a single stage transmission oil system driven T/C unit fitted.

As you can see we can easily give you incorrect advice. Cat machine Service and Parts advice always requires a S/No to be given as continual upgrades were applied to machines with a cutoff S/No and a start S/No for a new upgraded unit.

Regards,
Eddie B.

I can get some fuel filters tomorrow if you think they could be the problem. The engine runs good and throttles up as it should, or can the filters be affecting something else I am unaware of? The cat can turn right and left, 1st gear works pretty good if you're not pushing, 2nd and 3rd are a struggle as it seems something is slipping and not transferring power to the transmission. Thanks

What have you got for fuel pressure?
Any difference in reverse operation?

If the engine isn't bogging down, I would think maybe a clutch problem.

I don't know anything about a D8H however I wonder if they have a dry clutch or a wet clutch.

If it uses a dry clutch, it is possible it got "wet" so it is slipping. If it is a wet clutch, maybe it isn't a clutch problem. Maybe there is some adjustment to make the clutch clutch tighter.

Anyways, I am not sure it was established whether the engine continues to run at throttle speed when you engage the clutch or if it bogs down and attempts to stall.

It sounds like maybe it maintains throttle speed but the tractor just slows down or stops?

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
