What were the updates for the final drives over the course of the D8Hs? Can early tractors be upgraded to the late final drives?

I know the inboard bearing on the bull gear hub was one significant upgrade at about 46A15,000, I don't think it can be retro fitted. What other upgrades I am not sure, maybe heavier gears at about 46A28,000.

Hi, Folks.
I'm not sure but I think there was also an upgrade to the oil pump system in the later machines 'coz there were some failures in the earlier machines due to the final drive oil pumps not supplying oil when travelling in reverse. As I understand it, it was not recommended to travel more than about 600 feet in reverse before going forward again to resupply to the bearings.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

I have heard something to the same effect. I think they added check valves to the filter housings or something like that? Any idea what serial number the change happened and if it can be retrofitted to older machines?

Hi, 1972RedNeck.
I have no idea of what serial number it might have been at. I don't have a reference library like some of the members here. Pretty much everything I post is out of the empty space twixt my ears 'coz I am now living the 're-tired' life that I have been planning and working toward for close to 15 years - as a person of 'no fixed abode' wandering around in my little Mitsubishi Triton 4WD camper wherever the mood, the inclination or the wind might take me.

And, after 63 years in the work force on two continents, I like to kid myself that I have earned it.

Just my 0.02.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
