Another first class high quality restoration. It is a good feeling when you stand back and admire all your hard work isn't it! Thanks for sharing the photos with us.

Nice looking unit, complete with a trailer to move it.

Did you make a new SS water pump shaft ?

Looks great Eric. Have you had it running yet? Bet it sounds as good as it looks.

yes i have had it running, it is amazing how quiet the big engine is, i do have a small problem with the pony mag, i believe a new condenser will fix that.
It will be on display for Yancey Bros Cat next weekend in Savannah, GA. along with 6 other antique machines and two dozen new ones.

I got rid of the trailer axle, and yes it does have a new SS water shaft along with new radiator core and a few other little bits and pieces.

Hi Eric,
Beautiful restoration job. I see you are looking for a Sylphon temp gauge. I did not know that Sylphon made Temp gauges for the Gas or Diesel Cats. I know they made the Fuel Pressure and Oil Pressure gauges for the early Cats. Would you happen to have a pic of a Sylphon temp gauge? If you can't find a Sylphon unit why not try and procure a SW large face temp gauge? Still would look somewhat period correct as opposed to the cheap small face crap gauges Cat came out with in the late 50's early 60's.

Very well done Erik!! nice work! should be at the Cat visitors center! I noticed it doesn't have a high and low transmission, would it have been sent from the factory with direct drive if it was just going to warmer regions?

as long as the temp gauge has the brass bevel glass like the oil pressure, i really do not care what brand it is.
Thanks for the info i assumed they made the temp as well.

Not sure the complete history of this engine but it has worked at two saw mills over the past 50 years. The last owner did not like it as much as his Detroit Diesel because he could not hear the engine while "in the cut". He liked to hear the engine lug down to let him know if he was sawing to fast.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
