I picked up this power unit today 9J6113SP. It was stated that it ran the last time it ran. Both engines are stuck, the pony intake valves are stuck. Missing hood, oddball carb. Radiator looks real nice. What year do you guys think it is? thanks

the 9J06001 is a D8800 Industrial Engine with production starting in 1934.
Looks like they changed the serial range to 9J02001 in 1940 for the D8800 so it is between 1934 and 1940,
sorry i could not provide the year your machine was mfg, hopefully some will.

Nice find and i look forward to seeing it in person.

Erik, thanks for the info I guess it must be a 34' or 35' with a # of 6113 that would be the 113th unit of the series.

Just going by a few casting dates, it could be no earlier than 1939, and it does have the forged body injectors not the flanged body. So 1939-1940?

After cursing my luck about the down side of this unit, I noticed it had the original brass strap that wraps around the mag. I don't remember seeing one of those "in the wild" before. I guess they were some of the first parts to be thrown away. How many here have them on their Cats?

if the mag is bolted on, what is the purpose of the strap?

I'm not sure, since it is brass and surrounds the horse shoe magnet, is it a guard? any body?

I have seen these straps in old photos and parts books from that era.
I always assumed they were for added security for the magnet falling of with extreme use.
I like your engine. I saw one in a yard about 15 years ago and did not follow it up. The owner died later and everything went for scrap. Regret that now.
You should be able to find a carb for the pilot motor .You will need one with the throttle control on the out side.
Fill the cylinders with oil and be patient . I have had success with several motors doing that.
