Hello everyone. Thought I would update you all on my progress with my old dove. Well I managed to pull the steering clutches from my unit and found a couple of bearings toast as well as my steering clutches. Didn’t want to spend a pile of money so I bought bearings and used the steering clutches from my complete parts 14a. I tore into the back end of that machine and managed to remove both sets of clutches and drums as well as yokes. The clutches measured ok and seemed to have a lot of life left in them. The only issue I could see was that a seal had been leaking and threw some oil into the drum and clutch assembly on the right hand side of the machine. Didn’t think to much about it until I installed everything and buttoned her back up only to have that set of clutches let go once I get the 8 working while brushing. It was a long drawn out process and totally frustrates a guy to think that I could have been so careless. So now I’m in search of some different steering clutches and going back to the start with tearing it down again. Looks like it is going to sit for another summer until i get some more time next winter to work on her. Lesson learned the hard way. Dry clutches don’t like oil and oil clutches don’t like lack there of! Cheers
