Well good evening fello “old iron skinners”. I’m giving an update to my progress of removing steering clutches from my 14a dry deck. My previous post I was looking for info on how to properly adjust steering clutches and found helpful advice on this site with speedy responses. I went in through the inspection covers and found the yokes to be adjusted as far as they would go. After some painful deliberations I came to the inevitable conclusion that I needed to replace the clutches. I tore into the machine and removed the fuel tank and part of the canopy support and well as the cable control unit. This allowed me to finally have a good look inside and found that one of my brake bands was completely worn out and the other at about 30 percent left. Also found one brake band had a broken mount. All that is left is pulling the flange bolts from the drums and lifting out the units. Then I start the process all over again on my parts dozer. Here are some pics of my progress so far. Didn’t get as far as I wanted but farming has its own set of jobs to do as well!
