New to this site today with a question

Having trouble identifying a D8 CRAWLER as there is no serial number plate to be found on machine, only a number 11589 on the back of the steering housing. Any suggestions.

the serial number should be located on the upper LH corner of the transmission housing. Stand at the drawbar and look in the upper LH corner and you will see a small metal tag, should read a number then a letter followed by a sequence of numbers

The first number and letter will tell the model and the following number sequence will tell the serial number, then the correct model and age of the machine will be known.

Looking at the top of the steering case/transmission housing from the back of the tractor at the drawbar there is no tag present only the number 11589

Thats where the number should be but it should be prefaced by a 2U or some other series or model number. When the tag is gone the number is normally visible stamped into the case under it. One more post and you will be allowed to post pictures. A few pictures will help identify your machine. Thes serial number should also be on the left side of the engine block as sitting on the seat. It is toward the rear of the engine.

Yes this number 11589 is stamped into the metal in that location but it is not prefixed by the model identification numbers ie 2U etc, Will check for the number on the engine as described and will post again
Thanks

There are better brains than mine here, however I will take a guess and say it is a 1950 D8 2U and await the better knowledge to shoot me down.

Hi, Wombat.
I'm gonna guess at 2U, 1951 or later, 'cos for it appears to have the hard nose on it.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
