I've done a few searches found lots of great info.

after several attempts of cleaning the terrible abused carb on our D8 pony motor we've ordered a 24volt conversion kit . There are are other reasons ive decided to convert it over like the pony pumps oil out the exhaust etc . And the carb has a rusted out choke flapper it will start quick start but won't pull fuel non the less back to the conversion .. what do you guys do to block off the coolant ports the upper i can just bolt a plate but the lower one is a o ring boss it looks like ..??

The coolant port that comes of off the main engine block, use a 2" cup frost plug, for the one that come's of off the heads I used a plate with a 1/2" npt nipple threaded into the plate and a ball valve (so you can hock up a circulating heater) you put the plate over the existing cast piece that tie's the two heads together with a gasket and longer bolts.
hope that helps
