Does any one have any suggestions on what the problem could be when the main clutch (dry) doesn't "snap" in? The clutch doesnt slip if you hold the clutch lever back, but tends to just fall out while in use. I am thinking the cams on the pressure plate are just worn out and wont allow it to cam over. Does anyone have any other thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,

Scott

Part of the problem is probably worn cams. I had that same problem with my 1H D8. Florin set me up with new cams for about $135. That did not solve the problem completely. Then I noticed the machined boss on the pressure plate where the cams work was pitted and cupped. I was able to get in there with an angle grinder and dress it off flat again. The clutch is definately the weakest link in the older D8's, there were many upgrades during the 2U series.

Once you dressed it up with the grinder, did that seem to solve the problem? ( I just ordered the cams from Florin, thanks for that tip)

Yes it snaps in good now. I haven't done any work since so it is not tested yet. The wife won't let me do any work with it. She was complaining about looking at it a while back so I cut a road into the bottom where I could park it out of sight. She has been complaining ever since that I built a "super-highway" without permission.

Now I need to flip the cutting edge but the pony wont start. It has been too hot to work on it. I am going to have to get into the mag and try to clean the points. I tried leaving the pony right after the impulse clicked hoping the points would be open but it didn't help.
