I got two D8s on the ranch currently: D8 2U(22522 SP) that was running a few years ago but needs some steering clutch repairs & D8F (14A6830) which has been dead in it´s spot since the 70s.
I have SIS2.0 but can not find parts info on the 2U and limited on the D8F (which sis calls a D8E).
I know there is a few years and models between the two but how interchangable are the steering components and parts on the two?

What to fix up the 2U and use it to clear, level and repair some of the pastures for more hay.

Thanks greatly.

I actually couldn´t even find the 2U on SIS at all, did not recognize that prefix; assumingly due to age of machine. The 14A came up but mainly just alternator and hydraulic system information.

The D8 2u and 14a have not much parts interchangable and in stering cluch only the plates 3b7974 are the same

Bummer but that understandable. Would've sucked to have split and opened the two to find out I couldn't use any of it. Thanks

Hi, Londonslugs.
If you go to Cat for parts for either, you may need to ask them to look under "Classic Caterpillar" to find listings for them.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

If you are a "paying member" and have access to the ACMOC library you will find the parts books for the D8 14A & D8 2U and even older D8s. There are even the more useful OMIs (operation and maintenance instructions) for both machines. The D8 2U Air Force OMI is a fun read.

Awesome thanks. I have a paper copy of the 2U parts book already here with me but a OMI manual would be great. I was wish Cat would have information on SIS but I guess it´s just too old. I´m going to check with our resident Finning tech when I see him next week though.

Definitely signed up though because I am sure this place is going to be quite helpful throughout this process.

Maybe call "General gear" . He might have some good used steering clutch parts, looks like no new parts.
