I did some more land clearing this past week. This bush was walked down last fall. A little bit too much snow but it worked out for the most part. I am planning on using a large rototiller/mulcher that I acquired to chew up the sticks and make farm land. It has an NT380 Cummin powering it. Very similar to a Madge if you know what that is. Any of you have experience with these big tillers for land clearing? I'm hoping it's a one step process to eliminate all the root picking.

I have a Darf wheel rake, its like a big hay rake, it has seven wheels with spring loaded tines that roll all the wood and roots into a windrow. I'll load some photos later. You Aussies should know what these are, they came from over there.
Heres another manufacturer. https://youtu.be/i9eA4GeeYrI

Thanks for the replies. I am well aware of the big wheel rakes and am thinking about a 5 wheel Dika that is for sale local. Thing is, does mulching eliminate all that stick picking, raking, burning? I picked up this tiller and the gent I bought i from said it would eat up 4 to 6 inch diameter trees. Didn't give me any real details if that was all he had to do. I've brushed it of to minimize the wood in the soil. From internet searches I see these types of tillers were used in the 80's in B.C. in forestry planting preparation. Not sure if any of this goes on any more. This is not a Madge tiller but very similar. Looks to be shop built. Simple and heavy duty. Runs well. I just haven't had it near any bush that I could try in on.I see that the new high tech mulchers are getting to be quite common. I haven't been near one to see the first hand results.

You could try a heavy offset disk with 28" to 36" blades.

I have a old self propelled SEAMAN tiller that has a drum about the size of the one you got. I have not used it yet, but it says in the 1950s owners manual, "If your trees are 3" diameter or smaller we recommend you simply drive over them and chew them up." It did come with three different types of teeth for different applications.

That sure is a good looking D8. Looks like you’re doing a great job. Will this be a Home site?

Thanks for the pictures

Thanks for the responses gents. I am actually clearing land for a farm/small ranch I am building up here. I know it sounds crazy to you down south but the summer daylight makes for long growing hours and short season cereal grains will mature. The 14a is my baby. As some of you know I went through that cat from one end to the other last winter. Overall it runs real well. There are a few little things I need to straighten out. Got a small weep at the water pump and going to upgrade the trunnion balls with some new caps to the 5 inch ones I have on hand. Burns a lot less fuel than my 46A.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
