The local Fire Dept. has a quarried a D7G and I finally found the serial number plate but not on upper left rear end of transmission case. It has a # of 4YB00010 and is a USMC tractor with the word of Air Force across the top of the back of cab. I was told it was a 75 but on the plate it says 1982 and delivered in 11-83. My old cat book of serial numbers only goes to D7F and my CAT book don't have a 4YB in it. What gives? catskinner
4YB is the S/N prefix of the 3306 engine powering the tractor - it is not the tractor S/N. The D7G was manufactured from 1975 to 1987 in the U.S. and continued to be manufactured in places such as Indonesia and Japan until 2005.
