Had my machine for a couple of years now..... Has been a work horse with relatively few issues. It's always had a whine when moving but it seems like it might be getting worse(louder). I liken it to the rear end whine of an older truck that starts showing its age on the ring/pinion in the rear end. Is this common? Any adjustments I can make? I've never adjusted the sprocket bearing nuts....(not sure if that matters) Is it most likely coming from the finals or gears in the center section?(Sorry, can't remember the name of those gears in the center section, bevel gears maybe?) Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ever check your transmission magnetic and paper filters? Start there. If you suspect more the octagon cover back of gear case, pull that and you can see your ring and pinion.

The rear plate is circular, You can check if it doesent have winch or cable control on the back. You'll have to back the tractor on some blocks to raise the back up or transmission oil will run out.

If I remember correctly that machine has a floating pinion so dont be too alarmed if it has a iittle play, but of coarse no vertical movement. Not sure if the toqure divider in front of the transmisson could be a suspect. The filter checking idea is a very good start I would even cut the paper one open for a good look. Good luck on your wine.

Sorry for the delay!... been tied up at work. Thanks for the info guys. I have changed the transmission filters(2) in the past. It's been a year or so since I changed them but I only run this machine on the weekends so that's not too many hours. However, I've never been into the magnetic strainer. I kicked around the idea of changing the transmission oil a while ago but could never make heads or tails of there being a screen in the back of the torque divider housing. I didn't want to dump 30 gallons of oil into it and then have to do it all over again. Apparently this changed several times depending on serial# and the 2 operators manuals that I have say different things. I'll check the filters and mag. I can point it down into the pond to remove the rear cover for pinion inspection. Surely 30-45 degrees of downtilt will keep the juice in there. 😊 Once again, thanks for the assistance! I'll report back with what I find depending on the rain this weekend.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
