Trying to go through these D7s. It appears one might be ok to fire up. The other I think is best no to because I found some moisture in the fuel system and I don't want to risk any damage as I think the proper thing is to assess the tank, filters, purge everything, etc, etc. Just not sense in damaging something. As well, I was unable to turn the engine by hand with the fan. It is stuck. Not sure how stuck, but I think the right thing is to drop some lube in the cylinders and reduce risks of damage.
For those reasons, it will probably sell as-is, not running. Just don't have time to mess with it.
On the one that may run, it ran about 3yrs ago. I detect a little diesel smell in the oil. Not sure what that means. Probably more concerning is that I can turn the engine over with the fan blades by hand. It tightens up like its on compression but I would not expect to turn over such an engine? I guess I should have confirmed I was indeed turning the crank but I think so....
I am curious on the direct start 7s, there is a nut where the compression release would be, does that still work on these? Which way is run, I can't recall?!
I was curious if anyone has specs on the UC to check wear? chain links, etc? I checked grousers against what I have and one measured at 2.40" and new spec is 2.56".
