Hey there, I was just wondering if anyone in here has done an oil pan reseal on one of these dozers? My father has been using my dozer all winter, and he just called me today saying that it is starting to leak pretty good from the "oil pan area" is how he said it. I havent went to take a look at it yet.

Anyone have any knowledge on this that they would be willing to share on how to start planning to do this job?

My dozer is a 48a 10xxx with a pup motor.

I'll bet it's coming from somewhere besides the oil pan. Tough to tell without looking though. Hope it's not real trouble for you.

Preppy-
I have. But like Joe says, almost any engine oil leak will wind up on the pan.

You need to pressure wash it till it gleams and study it with a bright flashlight.

You do have a 2 piece oil pan with that serial, which I am almost certain you will never fully appreciate!

Can you isolate the oily side? Usual suspects are service meter, front main, ccu driveshaft if it's a cable tractor.

Also lots of external plumbing: turbo lubrication valve and lines, line to inj pump housing and particularly the right angle return to block , takeoff for pressure gauge, oil filter canister, etc.

After washing it thoroughly, start using the tractor. If the leak is in a tough spot to see , you can also use talcum powder or baby powder and dust it at the area to pinpoint exactly where the leak is coming from

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I had the stump pan off last year when I had to pull the pup motor out, and there was a small leak at the front "passenger" side of the oil pan, and Im just assuming that spot has gotten worse. When its not so damn muddy Ill look into it more and post back on here.

Im glad that it doesnt sound too too bad though to do!

My dad was telling me that he had a couple of injector lines loosen up on him as well, and it could very well be some diesel dripping on the ground as well.

I do know there was a small leak though, and I wouldnt mind taking care of that anyways, even if it hasnt gotten worse.
