Couple questions:
1. Should the hydraulic tank be filled while the lift cylinders are up/down/middle? Does it matter? - looked through all my books and can't find an answer.
2. Site glass on side of tank is clouded. Possible to clean through either the fill cap or filter housing(haven't had a chance to try it yet)? Could just add a dipstick I guess since the fill port screen has a tube for it and the 75E's had 'em. Anybody know where I could get one for a few bucks to save the hassle of measuring/guessing/fabricating?

Thanks

These are pages from the Operation and Maintenance Instructions for the hydraulic control on my D7E. Your hydraulic control might be a later model but the info should still apply.

If you include the serial number of your tractor or the system you are working on it is a big help. If you edit your profile to allow your town or general location to show, people will not have to always ask.
I hope this helps,
Craig

Should be checked while machine is level and blade lowered.

Thanks for the reply guys. I was thinking that no one had responded. I'm almost certain that I used to get an email when a reply was made. Sorry about that siescat, 48A7052 w/ just lift cylinders(no winch, ripper, or tilt)

Appreciate the help!

I prefer to run the tractor up or over the edge of an embankment to where the blade can drop full stroke when filling or bleeding the system, otherwise just check on level ground with blade dropped.

There should be a bleeder screw on the filter cover also, turn it one turn and bleed air after starting tractor.

Hi, zbrown78.
In my limited (?) experience, it is impossible to seriously overfill many Cat hydraulic systems 'cos the filler spout is 'ackshully' a tube that goes down into the tank to just above the indicated 'Full' level. This tube has the effect of shutting off air escape when the fluid reaches the level of the bottom of the tube, thus preventing any more oil entering the tank. Any further attempt to add more oil will result in the filler spout quickly over-flowing,

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
