I'm working on D7E 47A 3035, I had diesel getting in the engine oil a while back and we replaced the o-ring between the pump and the governor housing. The problem came back and I thought we had somehow damaged the o-ring. I let the tractor sit for over a year and finally tore into it again....the o-ring was perfect!!
We put it together and ran the engine with the side plate off of the injector pump and saw diesel leaking inside the housing for a while, then it quit! I thought perhaps it was due to sitting so long?
I changed the oil and the 'dozer ran out just fine. I hate problems that go away! I ran the tractor a few hours at a time and accumulated 18 hours with no problem. I checked the engine oil every few hours and the oil was clean and not gaining any. I was only operating 2-3 hours a day and everything was fine until it wasn't. That last morning I brought a gallon of oil to add as I figured it would need it. I pulled the dipstick and was dismayed to smell diesel and see the oil level was way overfull. I had noticed the oil pressure had fallen off the peg a little the afternoon before but I thought it was because the outside temperature was 102 F.
There is no sign of fuel from the weep hole for the transfer pump.
What could cause a problem of this nature to come and go?

I will have to watch this thread. How bad is the oring to replace between the Governor housing and pump? Im going to start there with mine. I havent had a problem with mine for the last 2 years. Run it hard for a few weeks then may sit a month then back on it again on the ranch. This time its sat about 2 months went to check everything the other day and noticed oil way over full and diesel smell to it.

I would assume shutting off the tank valve would help this some? But its not the right fix. I will start with the oring as well. I will try to stay up to date with your findings as well..

Hello DWC7, if your D7E has a cable controlled blade the project is pretty easy as long as you have a decent hoist. If you have the 173 hydraulic control(front mounted pump & tank) it still has to be better than my D7E that has the 172 hydraulic control(fender mounted tank) which has all manner of hydraulic oil pipes in the way!
My bad o-ring problem and the current problem only leaked diesel to the engine oil when the engine was running.

Well I’m in luck mine is a CCU and I have a service truck with crane. Any of you guys have an idea of where I need to look for why mine is draining fuel into the oil while sitting?

My guess is the transfer pump but that should mean the weep hole is stopped up?

yes Craig, making engine oil is a big red flag..

-another possibility is a bad valve...or camshaft...the cylinder goes bad and doesn't burn the fuel....it washes down the cylinder into the pan..

-i had that happen with a 466 International...i hate that machine:blabla: don't get me going..

You know i just pulled the transfer pump a few months ago due to my filter housing and lines stopping up with rust from fuel tank. My weep hole could very well be the issue? is that the one that goes down into the tube? Its been a few months since i messed with it.

Hi Team,
from memory on these the transfer pump and fuel injection pump housing lifter gallery are teed into the one drain line that mud daubers love to stop up.
I have seen a build up of mud in the belly pans can close the drain lines off too.
The second drain line is from the fuel filter tower bleed screw

Leakage from the transfer pump can either be forced back into the injection pump or if the transfer pump bearings and the packings are worn then fuel can get forced up past the oil sealing packing in the transfer pump seat assembly and into the accessory drive housing.

Cheers,
Eddie B.

Thanks EDB i think you are right i think they are T together i will blow mine out and check it i suspect this maybe an issue on mine. I feel pretty confident all of my seals are proper on the Tfer pump we just put it back together the other day. And my fuel in oil may be from running it and i just didnt catch it.
