We got the D6D ready Wednesday Aug. 3 for Thursday’s move (see the “Help please Old Magnet, D6D main crossmember…” post). I went to get my D7E ready to dig a grave for my BIL’s horse which was scheduled to be put down Sunday because X-rays revealed a dead hoof. I discovered the D7E’s engine oil was contaminated with diesel so we began repairs Thursday also.

Photo 1: Extra challenge; this D7E is equipped with the 172 hydraulic system (flywheel driven pump and fender mounted tank)
Photo 2: Colton preparing the chain hoist to remove the pump.
Photo 3: We got it done without removing the hydraulic lines. Good thing the Shade Tree Shop loves a challenge!

Way to go Craig! When I did mine I didn't see the bottom stud and nut and was about to start easing around on it with a 5' bar. Heat had reduced my limited mental faculties and after cooling off with a drink of water I ran my hand under there and found the nut. After taking that last nut off the whole pump housing came off like a prom dress.

I laid a rag in the governor so if I dropped the cotter pin or nut it wouldn't fall down into the engine.

Nice job. You guy get er done. How about scheduling a fishing trip to Minnesota. I got two boats, lots of shade trees, and lots of projects. You guys are welcome to come spend a month anytime.

Thank you everone for the complements,
Garlic Pete - thanks also for thinking about the horse. My brother in law Dennis “Dino” is a working cowboy and “Penny” was his mount for many of the more than 17 years that he owned her. Penny had been retired for several years due to trouble with her front hooves, Dino saw that she had the best treatment even having her shod with temporary special treatment shoes that were made of aluminum and shaped in a full circle. Penny improved and those shoes were removed several months ago, but she suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Photo 2: A short ride, one small loop around the very small trap riding Penny for my granddaughter June and Dino.
cab – your previous posts about this repair on your D7E were a great help.
old-iron-habit – Wow! What a generous invitation! I will PM you about this if I can get caught up before the snow flies up there.
