Hi Scott,

I wouldn't worry about it, if it is clean and fluid. Caterpillar at one stage recomended using 30 engine oil in every compartment, they later went away from that to using 50 transmission oil in final drives and 30 transmision oil in tranny's, 15w40 S3 in motors, in extreme cold they recomended lighter oils. For many years I ran heavy gear oil in my D8H finals, even in winter in the mountains, it never seemed a problem, always worked the tractor in 1st for first hour till it warmed up. In the modern high tracks I use 50 transmission in finals and change it every 250hrs because in planetary finals there is no where for contamination to settle it is always being circulated unlike the big static housings in the flat tracks. Regards, Neil

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
