Finally to stripping and paint but I figured that I'd go ahead and order the hydraulic lines so reassembly would be quicker. Anybody know which flange type they are without having to dissemble first? Cat flange? 61? 62?
I've been doing some reading and it appears that the bolt pattern would at least narrow to 61 vs Cat/62. Looking at my pics(not at the shop right now to take more measurements), it looks like the 1" main lines on the right side of the frame measure 2-1/16" on the wide pattern of the 4 bolt flange.
The 3/4" lines after the block on the carrier tube look to have 1-7/8" spacing on the wide pattern.

That would seem to be a 61 type based on google. Just wanted to ask the experts here though. Experience is king.

Thanks, Zane

Thanks OM. I guess what I was really asking is..... Does a 48A use the CAT flanges as far back as '66(48A7053)?

Thanks, Zane

Yes, they used a combination of one piece and split flanges back to 48A1.
What is the s/n of your system? Should be a tag for the 173/173B on the hydraulic control tank.

34H826.... and it's 48A7052(fat fingered the serial)

Also been doing some reading on replacing the hose and keeping the original ends. Didn't know that could be done until I started looking into it. But, 1 of the main lines has been replaced and doesn't have the original connectors. Looks like maybe the last owner ran into this same issue with the flange sizing based on the rig shown in the pic.

Thanks, Zane

I don't believe those fittings were intended for reuse.

Those hoses in the parts book page and in the photos are built up with reusable stems and sleeves, a Cat dealer will cut the hose, push the stems out of the sleeves, fit new hose and push the sleeves back on.

Is that still current practice. I have my own hydraulic swedging equipment and everything is one time use.

Here in Australia all Cat parts stores are able to fit new hose to the re use fittings, it is cheaper than the non re use fittings. I think only one of the fittings in the photo's is non re use, the rest you should be able to get your Cat parts store to fit new hose up onto the old fittings.

Cat were using replaceable ends before the 48A D7 was built and still using them when I retired nearly 50 years later, I can't see them changing a major selling feature like that.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
