Hi All,
I'm replacing the gauges on my 1964 D7e 48a 3196 serial number dozer and have been having a few problems getting the right part numbers.I was hoping someone could help me out with getting the correct gauges for the year.
I did get a few gauges from my Cat dealer and all of them seem to be newer style no writing, just picture gauges.I would prefer the old style, but not sure if i could get them.I did get a torque converter oil gauge(as in my parts book) but can't fit it as it didn't come with wiring and a sender as in the pics, the old one seems to have sealed wiring into the back of the gauge. Also this gauge has a screw threaded in the hole where wiring goes in,does this screw get taken out if i could find the right wire for it.
I also was wanting to know whether there was a transmission gauge also for this year dozer as it says in my operation manual the early models did,but i can't see any place where the wiring goes in the transmission only the torque converter.
I was hoping someone with the same model dozer would have a picture of the correct gauges and part numbers for it.
I am also in need of a new hose from my transmission to the oil filter, its dripping a fair bit from the hose at the join when running ,unfortunately the hose, part number 9M8111 is not made anymore so was wanting to know if i will have to get one made for it.Any help will be appreciated,
Regards John.

The problem that I had on my D7E was getting a hose made for the tilt cylinder where it bolted onto the hydraulic tank.

What you run into is that captive flange on the fitting itself. It is no longer available from Cat as a separate piece nor on certain fittings. What my dealer wound up doing is ordering a fitting that was still available that had that flange on it and we were able to put it in the hose machine like we were pressing a new hose onto the fitting and shrink the fitting enough to slide the new flange off and use it on my old fitting. My old fitting didn't have a captive flange, the flange was able to slide on and off. My old flange was cracked so I needed a new one.

If your flange is good, you could salvage it and probably find a hydraulic shop that could use it on a different style elbow even if they had to weld a threaded fitting on one end of the elbow.

Thanks for the imfo d9gdon,the hose and fitting seem to be in really good condition,i only noticed the leak after noticing alot of oil collecting in engine sump protector plate at the front of the guard and looking under the dozer towards the back could see a constant drip.I found where it was coming from and it looked like an easy fix.I'm thinking like you said getting a hose fitting made up.The excessivive oil in the sump guard i originally was looking at seems like another big job,the guard itself looks like it weighs about half a ton, probably will have to use a few hydraulic jacks and then when i get it off, hopefully i won't be in for any expensive surprises but that can wait,i'll get the hose fixed first.

Is it leaking at the flange? If so replace the oring first with a N90 durometer oring. Wasn’t sure from what you said where it was leaking at. One side or the other of that flange will has an oring.

From the pic, it looks like it's leaking where the fitting is skived onto the hose. I don't think that's an original Cat fitting. I would think that Cat would be a reusable fitting.

I'm pretty sure the hose is leaking where the hose is crimped onto the fitting but will double check before i take the hose off tomorrow.Hoping it might be just the seals as the hose looks fine and not cracked.
I'm hoping to also get the right torque converter gauge if anyone knows the part number, the one i have is right according to the parts book but does'nt have the wire and sender with it so can't fit it.I also guess it does'nt have a transmission gauge either as the operators manual says they do on the earlier models but no lines apart from the torque converter wire.

Off Road Equipment has two used gauges for $24 or genuine NOS for $46, all plus freight.

It looks like the capillary tube is broken off your gauge.

It should have a converter temp gauge not a pressure gauge. Should be a 1W0701 or 1W0704. original was 6H6692. The gauge that is in the pick is like an engine oil gauge and would have a oil line threaded to it.

Thanks DWC7,d9gdon and Rome K/G for helping me with my questions,i'll buy a converter gauge with the part number you mentioned Rome K/G,i've been searching the net for a while now looking for the right one and was just getting confused with too many different part numbers, the gauge in the pic is one i purchased new from my local cat dealer and the only one which showed up in my parts book,it cost $130 so a bit dissapointed i can't use it.
I went up to where my dozer is located today to have another look at the transmission hose leak i have in it,i was side tracked again by a more major issue as the engine was low on oil again when i checked it.It was dripping quite heavily out underneath of the oil pan guard when i fired it up.I had a look and found the oil pan was leaking from a patch someone had welded onto it as in the pics.Definitley not good,i'll have another look tomorrow with the front guard off,i was thinking about just welding around the patch again but thnk that might be too dangerous even with the oil drained,i was thinking of trying cold weld which is simular to JB weld, not sure with vibration etc also a fair bit was gushing out, not sure if it would work, any suggestions on this problem, thanks.

Sure is Billy-,i started off looking at the transmission oil leak and ended up at the front of the at the engine looking at a more serious leak from the oil pan.Now i've got over the worry about it,i'll get down to fixing the problem, lucky i have another week off work.I'll start a new thread on whether i can remove the oil pan without lifting the engine out.

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
