Previously Old Magnet sent me the directions to adjust the cable unit, which is a 127 and thank you for that. When I try to adjust it, the spring pulls the lever clear over to the down position and the roller goes behind the site hole. If I take the vice grips and lock the linkage in the neutral position, then the roller is in the correct spot, but there is 3/4" of clearance between the roller and the ramp with the notch in it that follows it. I can stick a pry bar between the roller and the ramp so it pushes the ramp down and the blade will drop. My first question is -- is that ramp with the half-moon notch in it supposed to be up against the roller when the lever is in the middle & neutral position? And why does the spring pull the lever clear to the back unless I put a vice grip on the linkage and hold it? Should I be able to move the ramp with the half-moon notch in it fairly freely because I'm wondering if that's the problem -- if it is sticky or gummed up? It takes grease easily and if you stick the bar between the roller and the ramp, the blade will come right down, so it does work, but my roller is not moving far enough to activate the ramp with the notch in it. It's got me baffled.

Yes it should be against. Sounds like the band linkage is tight, if not used for a long time they tighten up. you may have to remove all the pins in the linkage assembly and clean them up and get everything moving freely. I've seen this in the past with my controls and did the same, cleaned and freed them up and now work like they should.

Sounds like it's way out of time, re read the instructions and be sure the 2 nuts are jammed together when done. You may need to back the bottom one ( castellated) off with a screwdriver then turn the top 3/4" nut down to center the zerk with the dimple in the arm as shown in OM's illustration, with the roller centered then turn the castellated nut up so there is no play, finally lock the top nut down so they are tight against each other. I guess you have the small spring hooked up correctly? Cable control adjusting can be a mystery if you have never done it, hang in there and keep asking questions, we'll help you get it right.

Hi, farmerfred.
If the clutch is working as it should with about 5 1/2" of free travel to actuate the clutch, then I would suggest that you need to loosen off the castellated nuts - the ones that DPete mentioned - that adjust the 'ramp lever' - the brake actuating lever - and adjust them so the 'ramp lever' IS in the correct position in relation to the roller and zerk on the clutch actuating arm.

Many people have the weird notion that these two castellated nuts are for adjusting the brake spring pressure. NOT SO. THAT is what the adjustment - the BIG castellated nut - on the brake spring is for.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
