I planning my future projects. a Winch Cat is someting that I'd like to have. There's few D7 Cat๐ that I could buy:
Pair of D7D๐ that one has D7D winch and worn out tracks pony missing ect. The other one is good original condition, with working pony, 27" tracks, no winch. The owner would like sell them together. I could make one good D7D winch tractor of them and have lot of spare parts for future use.
The other option is pair of D7Cs, one with D7D winch and the other D8D winch. Both of them need new engines, they have wide tracks (the other on has 36" tracks) on OK condition. Pony engines are missing ect. I could make good winch Cat of them, but I would need a D339 engine. The D8D winch is what I'm really interested.
I'm wondering which is best way to go? How would a Carco winch from A-C compare to a Hyster D7D of D8D winch? I know that D7D winch pulls 40000lbs, and D8D winch 58500lbs. How much will that Carbo winch pull? I think, I could use that D7 occasionally for towing machinery, like harvesters, excavator ect, out of woods.
I think that installing winch on my D8H wouldn't be a good Idea. It's heavy and have narrow tracks, so I could not use it on soft ground at all. So it's best to leave that ripper on it and keep it original condition.
You,d be best looking for a Hyster D7D or D7N winch to fit on a D7-17A
Any D8 winch or Carco off a allis or IH is not going to fit; unless you can find a carco model G that came off a D7.They all have different mounting bolt patterns and pto coupling splines and shafts.
Winch line pull and speed is all related to the winch gearing, drum diameter and amount of rope on it, and of course the tractors input torque. And easiest way to increase pull for a undernourished tractor is to use a sheave block. fwiw a D7D winch has 40-1 gearing., and am pretty sure D7N is the same too; any difference in linepull between the 2 is due to a increase in input torque between a 3T [D7N] and a 17A [D7D]
