Cable broken
Clutches out of adjustment
PTO shaft disconnected from the front of the engine, or main clutch disengaged on the rear mount type
Splines on the pto shaft or Gears in the CCU stripped.

Does it have front mount or rear mount CCU?

NEVER adjust a CCU with the engine running on the front mount CCU driven off the engine front pulley or with the main clutch engaged on the rear mount CCU driven off the transmission shaft. Just too many bad things that can happen if you leave the power to it while you adjust it.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Just in case you don't know what a CCU is it's a cable control unit. Good luck

I would go further than that and say don't fiddle with anything on a CCU with the engine running at all, the main clutch could warm up and grab or the pilot bearing sieze (the old ones are only grease lubed) and set the CCU in motion. Work through and understand its operation while 'dead' and sort any stiff linkage etc before making any adjustments.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
