Hi All, looking for information re converting pony starting system to direct electric start on a 48a. Was there ever a Caterpillar service magazine detailing the parts needed and the procedure?

Since those that were dealer mechanics have mostly stopped posting here, I would suggest looking in the parts book. Which hopefully is in the library here. Even if they had a package deal at one time, it is probably not available today.
