I have a 1948 3T with a front mounted winch. The winch is past saving. A friend may have a D9 of the same vintage with a good winch on it. Does anyone know if these would have been the same size on both machines?

Will try. The D7's number is 3T8658. I don't even know if the 9 has a plate on it.

OM I,m thinking if it,s from an early D9 18A or 19A that it no doubt is a 30 cable control & probably a 54C or a 57E serial number.

Hi We had 49A & 34A D9E's with No 30 cable controls 27E's. I think 3T D7's had No 24 FMCCU's

Yes it could be a 24 control & the 8D Serial Number came out in 1945 so it,s in about that era.

The D7 is a #24 unit serial numbers 8D501-up
There is also as serial number 33E1 #24 unit of about the right era.
The #30 27E1 & 54C1 came a little later.
Having the serial number would pin it down.

The D7 uses the #24 CCU, and the D9D and D9E uses the #30 CCU, and despite the drum diameter being the same at 11" for both, there is a substantially larger clutch plate facing area in the #30 (i.e. a larger number of plates). I don't think you will be able to make a #30 fit the D7.
