Can anyone give me some advice on the best way to drop the stump pan on a D7-17a crawler? Would I just unbolt it and let it drop or is there a better way?

That sounds good, right now its in the bush not running, but I should be able to get it down and drag it out the back. I'm just now in the process of removing the pup motot and switching over to direct start. Thanks.

I use a ratchet strap and hook both ends to the outside of the track pads with the strap cradling the bottom of the belly pan. Snug it up, take the bolts out of the pan, then ratchet it down to the ground. Make sure that you wind up enough slack in the ratchet when you first tighten it to the tracks.

I was under the dozer this morning and yes there is a lot of crud in there. This one is in two pieces and there is a few logs jammed in that I must have backed over. While I'm on here perhaps someone could help me with another question, I just removed the pup motor to change to direct start, and going through the center mount there is a hole going into the main engine from the pup, I'm thinking that it is some kind of drain. I want to know if I can plug it up?

That drain is the oil return for when the pony had the common oil system.
Should be blocked off when the oil systems are separated or when going to direct electric start.
