Hello.

l have a issue with the right brake on my D7, in short i dont have one.

The dozer sits for long (too long apparently) periods in between work and at times the brakes have stuck and needed the clutches jiggling around to free it , apologies as ive no precise memory of what i did exactly, its happened maybe 3 times in 6 years.

Now i have no brake on the right side and suspect ive lost a section of lining as when i was pushing snow the clutch system worked as it should.

So the question; is there a way to confirm this without damaging the drum, im concerned that if i tighten the band it might score the drum?

What will i have to take off to do this, can i lift the tank if so how high or does it have to be removed?

lt the large hatch cover the only other thing that has to come out or do i have to mess with that res in the center?

Fortunately, here in logging land there are folks that can line these and quick.

Thanks AOI

To accomplish much inside the steering clutch compartment, the seat tank needs to come off or at least up. Make sure it's secure if working under it! The steering booster in the center does not need to come off unless you want to reseal it while the seat is off. The drive input on the bottom is the seal that leaks the oil the worst. It typically just "disappears" into the bevel gear/transmission oil.

Brake bands can rust through at the bottom if there's water left inside the compartments.

I think if there's a section of brake friction lining broken loose, it should be pretty obvious once you get where you can see in there. Might find it with a wire poked up through the drain hole? How about an inspection camera? That could allow you to look around in there without removing anything more than the one small cover.

Do you have a parts book or service manual? The bands are made in sections so they are easier to remove and reinstall.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

You don't need to pull the fuel tank off.The brake bands are in sections that you unbolt.Find a serviceman repair manual and it will tell you how.
