Keep on sharing Ray. If it has Cat in it, it's good to go.

Thank you. At times I worry about over sharing farming things. Some have thought this should be a bulldozer place.

place.

Isn't "Farming With Steel Tracks" ACMOC's longest post?

Did you have the dealer send the UC specialist to measure the UC for you? He/she can give the proper measurements and write up a quotation, or possibly assist you finding a used set with lots of life left in them.

Unless your heart is set on a D6D, there are other machines out there that would do the job. On CL, there was a non turbo D7 17A for cheap. Not a hotrod, but slow and easy and will last a very long time.

Many CAT mechanics have told me one of the best machines was an older D6C 74A, compared to a D6C 17R which was faster, but wore itself out quicker.

Juiceman, I think I have seen that same d7 on CL too. I messaged the guy about seeing it but was kind of round about with an address. Has a starter issue is what the guy said.

I went and looked at it. Other than the worn out undercarraige the tractor does not look like its in bad shape. The service meter is broken at 999 hours but he said knowing the family that its the 1st undercarraige on it and they probaly parked it when the rollers started to hit the pin bosses. Lived its whole life on a delta island in peat dirt. He wants 8k for it but I might be able to talk down to 7k. Replacement undercarraige is 15.8k for all new salt rails, idlers, sproket segments, bolts and nuts for the pads and sprocket segments and top and bottom rollers.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
