Hi guys, just picked up this jewel. It's a 47j series d6c. The serial tag isn't super definitive so I was wondering where there might be alternative locations. She fired right up after sitting for 7 years

Congratulations...
s/n tags on lower RH side of the dash
Upper LH rear bevel gear case (covered or removed for winch)
Engine LH rear below head.
That's a UK built machine.
Used the D333cT engine up to s/n 47J1687 then the 3306

Thanks, I'm super excited. I always wanted one of these.
So the dash tag says 47j364... The 4 fades out then it looks like there may have been another number. The engine tag is a cat tag that says 6a5111. Just below that L0192V is stamped into the block.

Looks like it's had an engine transplant. Original would be a 49V 3306. The 92V is the designation for a D7G.
Engine arrangement #4N4506.
Engine s/n 3N28255-up

s/n 47J2962 - 3671 would be 1974 production.

Thanks for your help, so its safe to say that's a 3306 in there? I know there aren't many differences between the two, and I can't be positive that the serial is four numbers, not just the three

here is the dash plate. The one on back does appear to be covered by the winch

That's a 3306 in there now. To be sure, check the water pump, it will be gear driven with a four bolt cover on its front.

Do you think I should be concerned about the additional power of an engine out of a d7? Is that something cat can check? The guy I got it from said it was very powerful.

That would be a concern, the original was 125hp, the 7G is 200hp.
Question might be was the engine transplant intact or parts swapped from the old engine. I'd guess it would probably be a complete change in tact.

I doubt the D7F engine would go straight in, there are too many differences in the flywheel housing and accessory drives, the plate also doesn't look like a 3306 ID plate which had at least three separate numbers on it, I can't be sure about the fuel system, that looks D333C, the sleeve metering was introduced around the same time as the 3306, but I would need to check the book to be sure. Why is the water temp plugged into the inlet manifold and I wonder how long it was drawing dust through a broken air cleaner indicator before someone plugged the hole with what looks to be a fuel pressure gauge?
There seems to be traces of green paint on it, a whole batch of these were supplied to the British Army in the late '60's. if its one of those, they would be all D333C engines.
